Boys in general have a talent for making most anything a competition. From racing to the top of the stairs to who wins the girl. As boys get older rivalry only escalates to business deals and golf games. What is the state of men with a little wrinkling, do they still have the king of the hill mentality, or is it lost on youth? In the film Two Laps, we find Val, the lanky giant, and Pete the mischievous opponent gearing up for their annual swim race.
Directed by Owen Trevor, using film and digital textures (DV, Hi8, 16mm Bolex, 8mm, 35mm stills and Medium format stills) to capture the archive of this 17 year old race. Though Trevor set out to do a story of two dueling old men, the underlining love letter to Australia’s beauty provides the perfect setting.
